Well, the saga of my inability to stay clean continues. Today I’ve gotten blood on me.
Things started okay today. Had a good scooter run with Calypso. Fed everybody. Gave the cat her antibiotic (she was sneezing last week and we thought she might be catching something).
Then I went to get our 12-year-old, deaf spaniel, April, inside so she could eat breakfast. I let her run loose around our wooded backyard before bringing her in. Make a long story short, two random dogs came into the backyard and tried to kill her.
Not joking.
I heard screaming and ran up the hill to find two dogs holding April down on her back and going for her neck. I yelled bloody murder at them and they got out of our backyard in a hurry. Adrenaline kicked in so things are all sort of jumbled. April got up but she was in total shock and kind of tripped. Brought her inside ASAP and saw blood on her neck but it wasn’t gushing out. I just didn’t know how bad it might be.
Went to the vet immediately. He took off her collar (I think that collar was all that stopped the two dogs from ripping her jugular out) and shaved her neck. There were some nasty puncture wounds and lacerations that required surgery and stitches.
April is back home tonight with a drainage tube in her neck and ugly-looking wounds. I have to keep mopping up the stuff draining out of the tube. Also have to apply hot packs, give her pain meds and antibiotic.
I am pretty sure I know who owns the dogs who attacked April. Unfortunately we have not been able to get in touch with them yet.
More later.
