That number, in case you are wondering is the new Siberian husky record for the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. That’s eleven days, twenty hours, thirty-nine minutes and eleven seconds. Blake broke his own record from 2008.

We’ve been watching from down here in Georgia and Jen and Kim have been watching from Minnesota (not to mention Phil in Anchorage). I know there is a party going on at MCK right now and I am sorry to be missing it. Hopefully I will be back at the kennel next week.

But in the meantime, CONGRATULATIONS BLAKE AND TEAM! You rock! Three cheers for a new Sibe record!

Blake and the MCK Siberians set a new record for the fastest Siberian team to complete an Iditarod!!! Everyone associated with the kennel and sponsors can take credit for helping make it happen! Too bad there were not more people at the finish line to see it happen. It would be interesting to see an Iditarod where they went as far as the Yukon River then made a loop around the alternate year trail and then came back the same way to the starting line in Willow! Big crowds maybe would greet the finishers and it would be closer to their dog trucks! No airplane rides back from Nome and the next $$$ spent! Just a thought!

That’s an interesting idea, but I don’t see it happening, especially since snow conditions in Willow and surrounding areas have been iffy in recent years. And I think Nome would not stand for it. But the convenience of not having to fly out is a plus. Hmmm, but perhaps it could be a race other than the Iditarod…

You might be interested to read “Sled Dog Trails” by Mary Shields. If I recall, she did something similar after running the Iditarod. She turned around and mushed back into interior Alaska. I may be getting this all wrong though. I haven’t read the book in so long. Must go find my copy and then I will let you know the details.
