Conditions: Cloudy, cool, damp
Forecast: Rain showers tonight, cloudy tomorrow. Highs in the 50s, lows in the 40s

Above: Me with Saorise (right) and Chunk, aka Roisin last year. Remember the orphans? Well they are a year old today!

And here is Chunk now! Not so much of a pudgeball anymore! In the background, from left to right are two orphans - Saorise and Orla, and one flower power, Lily.

Aaaaand, in case you somehow missed it, Lance Mackey won the 2010 Iditarod - becoming the first person ever to win four straight Iditarod victories. I say person - the credit should go to his amazing dogs. Second was Hans Gatt and Jeff King third.

Blake is in Koyuk on the Bering Sea now. He still has a team of eleven dogs and they are still running ahead of the Siberian record!

Chuck is a fine looking Siberian! I bet Lance will be around for Iditarods 2011 and 2012 so he can add a 5th and then 6th to beat Swenson record 5 wins! But Hans Gatt was gaining on him! Maybe next year Hans or even Dallas Seavey might win it! Stay tuned! Wattie McDonald of Scotland left his Siberians back home in Scotland and is running a team of Dean Osmer’s Alaskans from the race photos on his website. Amazing how quickly the Red River in Fargo has changed from a snow covered sled dog highway to a flooding river now!

Yes, and that not-so-much-a-chunk-any-longer Chunk has a major attitude. Gotta’ love her.

Lance pretty much said at the end of the race that he will be back next year. Jeff King claims that he is retiring. I’m sorry to see him go but very interested to see what he will be up to next! There are so many up-and-coming mushers out there that it will be interesting to see if any new winners come up in the next few years.

And all I can say is, I am VERY glad the Red River race isn’t in March.

Cheers!

A
