Location: Northwest GA
Time - 5:26pm
Temperature: 76 degrees F
Conditions: Clear, light breez
Forecast: Rain tonight, turning to sun tomorrow. Lows in the 40s

So I was lying in bed around 5:30 this morning. Awake and feeling miserable since I seem to have picked up a cold. At least it’s not as bad as the flu but it seems to be longer-lasting. Anyway, my decongestants (which knock me out like a light) had worn off and I’d been waking up off and on all morning.

I just wanted to go back to sleep but I got kind of distracted by a weird noise. My first thought was “okay, here comes an airplane”. But the noise remained steady. A low frequency vibration that I almost wasn’t sure I was really hearing. So I lay there thinking “what the heck IS that?” The thought of earthquakes crossed my mind and I waited to see if anything shook. It didn’t but the noise went on. I decided that, since I had a cold, my ears might be stocked up and I probably was hearing an airplane. Anyway, I was too tired to really worry. I turned over and went back to sleep.

By the time I woke up this morning, I’d completely forgotten about the wierd noise. I took care of the dogs, had some breakfast and then sat around for much of the morning. Around lunchtime, I finally checked my email and noticed something about an earthquake. Since it was a list message and the earthquake was in Illinois (according to the email message) and wasn’t of particular interest IMO, I deleted it (I get a TON of emails and have to keep my inbox cleared out). Then I remembered the low noise and waking up in the morning. I immediately went off to my “deleted items” folder and found the earthquake message. Sure enough, there had been an earthquake and sure enough it had been felt in this area and sure enough it was EXACTLY when I heard the noise.

Weird. My Mom says that she heard the floorboards squeak as if someone were walking on them! Now that would’ve creeped me out. Also, something fell off the wall in the basement.

Anyway, I know this has nothing whatsoever to do with sled dogs but I’m blogging about it anyway because I don’t have much else to do right now.

Cheers!
