I just got back from a trip into Fairbanks to see the Ice Art exhibits. If you ever get up to Alaska this time of year you should DEFINITELY check it out. It’s like a wonderland for both kids and adults. There are ice slides which are way too much fun. There were people of all ages on these slides and, once I tried them out, I could see exactly why. It’s like an ice roller coaster. An ice playground.
And then there are the ice sculptures themselves. If you have ever been to Brookgreen Gardens in South Carolina, this is like the ice version of that. They are beautiful and some of them seem just unreal. One of my favorites was of a surfer riding waves. The people who carve this stuff really pay attention to tiny details and the result is fantastic!
Another of my favorites was a working ice phonebooth. Semi-inside joke.l Those of you who know me personally will understand the significance.
And then of course there was the ice sled dog team. One dog sitting, one curled up asleep and the others lying ready to run. Dogs carved out of ice. Like everything else, they were lit with colored lights which gave the park a festive feel. Christmas in March.
So, with temperatures that I like, snow on the ground, dogs outside and sled runs in the morning…I welcome Spring. For this is the equinox. We will see what this new season holds.
